CYH Episode 91: Ruby - The Gift of a Heart Transplant

Welcome to Consider Yourself Hugged: A Place for Women! Click here to listen to Episode 91. (***Disclaimer: We provide these notes as a skeleton for the show - nothing fancy 😄)

Our final Christmas season episode on giving is more special than we can relay! Today, Morgan Watson shares the story of her sweet Ruby who received a heart transplant exactly one year ago on the date of our recording! Ruby was 3 months old at the time and is now 15 months and thriving.

Morgan has so many lessons to share today about giving, motherhood, supporting one another, and grace. Please listen and reach out with your support and stories!

  2. Margaret's Closet Instagram: From Morgan: Collects donations for the cardiac ICU at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, ("lovies", PT tools, pacifiers, swaddles) if anyone is wanting to donate this holiday season to something local that helps local families! Ruby didn’t have anything when we first got there because we hadn’t packed anything! It was really nice to have a couple cute swaddles and a bow to make us feel a little more comfortable.

  3. Register here to become an organ donor. One donor can save 8 peoples’ lives!

Morgan's Tips During Tough Times (Yours and Others):

  1. When you are in a crisis, have a contact person/liaison to help manage information.

  2. For others in crisis, send texts and voicemails that say “you don’t have to reply…”.

  3. Remember to stay in touch with people even later, when the crisis seems over. He/she probably still needs encouragement.

  4. Drop off meals or send food gift cards, Grub Hub, etc.

  5. Use Meal Train to help coordinate meals.

  6. Bring real house slippers to the hospital,

  7. Reach out – it doesn’t matter what you say 😊
